Were blacks in America before whites?
I know the Vikings reached Newfoundland (Vinland) in 1000 AD but someone told me Blacks reached the Americas before Whites. Is there any proof of this and if so it would obviously have to be older then 1000 AD?
I believe “someone” was talking about how escaped black slaves (from a Spanish colony the Caribbean, I think) temporarily colonized what is now the USA before any white settlers came from Europe. I read this in the book _Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your History Textbook Got Wrong._ It’s a great read. “Someone” may have been saying that the first settlers in the US were black, and not talking about the whole western hemisphere. The book also talked about how Olmec statues in Mexico look like Africans, but most scholars do not believe that Olmecs were descended from Africans.
